Drink:

Hurricane

Recipe:

1 part Dark Rum
1 part White Rum
Passion Fruit Syrup (to taste)
Lime Juice (to taste)

Shake ingredients over ice. Serve over ice in a hurricane glass (or plastic cup for street revelry).

Given the ballsy and ridiculous nature of the New Orleans' French Quarter, its not terribly surprising that one of the most popular drinks to originate from the area would be named after the city's most frequent natural disaster.

A favorite of Mardi Gras revelers, this daiquiri derivative is a very sweet drink. Often served in a plastic cup instead of the traditional hurricane glass to take advantage of New Orleans open container laws (open alcoholic drinks can be consumed in public, but not out of a glass or metal containers), the Hurricane is perfect for the occasion.

The drink is also popular in Bahamas, where it steps up the rum to 151 proof and replaces the sweeteners with coffee liqueurs, Irish cream, and Grand Marnier.
